STEEL & SONS CUP FINAL 2007 - DUNDELA VS. BALLYCLARE COMRADES
Christmas day        25/12/07        Seaview

DUNDELA were given the best Chritmas present of all yesterday - A Steel & sons cup trophy. The duns picked up the trophy for the eighth time, at the expense of Ballyclare comrades.

Kick-off was delayed by 15 minutes due to a frozen pitch which still wasn't fully thawed by 11.00am.
The Duns made a good start, Murphy found McIlroy who miss-kicked his shot.
It wasn't long before did Dundela took the lead though. Burrows had beat
Comrade's Bell, before being tripped by an out-stretched leg of the
defender. Officer (who later was announced Man-of-the-match) took the
free-kick and curled it well into the left-hand corner of the net to put the
Duns one-up. Almost instantly Burrows rounded the 'keeper Mannus,
before putting wide from close range. The only real chance for Ballyclare
in the first half was a corner swung in from Patterson which was met by
Eddie Hill who's flick was saved from Taylor, although there was speculation
over if the ball had crossed the line.

In the second half Dundela started brightly with A few half chances and a wel l rehearsed                                      free-kick from Officer which just skimmed the bar. Hill made a good run, skipping                                      through a few tackles and he played a cheeky ball through to Patterson who's header                                      was well saved by Taylor. Dundela where Pressing for the all-important second and after                                      Burrows went close, another free-kick from the number 11 (officer) won a corner. A                                      great ball in from bandaged-up Murphy was met By Murray, who's header fell to Burrows.                                      All the striker had to do was nod it over Mannus's head to get his 38th goal of the                                     season and that's exactly what he did. The game was now in the bag and 10 minutes later                                      the referee Simon Creaney blew the final whistle. The wee Duns had won the first trophy                                      for 6 years - It was worth waiting for.
